“City Hall Square is one of the most important, impressive and prestigious construction projects undertaken in the city in this century” [The Making of City Hall Complex, Jerusalem by David Kroyanker].
The layout includes a central municipal square integrated with and surrounded by restored historical buildings and new, modern structures. The RECL team was involved in every stage of planning and execution from urban-environmental concepts to the detailed architectural design. There was 14,864m2 of renovations to historical buildings and 55,741m2 of new construction including Council Chambers, an 800 car parking facility, retail, numerous public spaces, and the redevelopment of the main City Square. High level security communication computer facilities were installed within the new municipal complex. There is a striking oasis of palm trees and a lush garden on the grounds outside, a spacious stone plaza that leads to a stone platform roofed by an iron pergola structure, and a copper dome rising above the top floor of the City Hall building containing the chambers of City Council.
