Located on a 60 hectare area of land, the Pickard Centre treats domestic, commercial and industrial wastewater which is then returned to the Ottawa River. Between 1989 and 1994, RECL completed the expansion of the existing primary clarifiers, construction of a new service tunnel, rehabilitation of the existing primary clarifiers, modifications to the existing disinfection tanks, and the decommissioning of the existing digester tanks. This complex project involving a primary treatment facility upgrade, and the addition of a secondary treatment process, and biosolids processing facility, now provides one the largest wastewater treatment facilities in Canada and removes more than 90 percent of pollutants from the influent water.
