In the summer of 2006, Minto Commercial Properties Inc. retained RECL as their Construction Manager and Project Leader for the construction of a new 13,935m² high tech office building in the Merivale Road Business Park. The building includes a 2,323m² lab on the ground floor, full service cafeteria, fitness centre, customer presentation centre, and office space. Construction commenced on site in November 2006. The structure was completed in April 2007. The project team reviewed several energy efficient concepts for the building in order to exceed the CBIP program requirements and achieve LEED accreditation. Some of the energy efficient elements included a heat pump energy recovery system to serve the perimeter zones, water efficient fixtures, lighting dimming controls, evaporating refrigerant coolers, and variable pumping. The building operates on a web based DDC control system and all energy sources are metered and monitored to optimize energy consumption and demand. As well, there was an extensive site developed. In August 2007, JDSU initiated a major re-design of the ground floor space which resulted in an extension to the schedule of one month. JDSU commenced occupying the building in November 2007 and completed their move in December 2007.
